A Premonition

I woke up this morning with a rather urgent #mashup of these two poems, while still straddling the veil between awake and asleep.
A Brief for the DefenseThe Shopper
A little like two remixed Blinkist summaries meeting to become a heavily edited highlights reel, and then completely missing the point.

Yet somehow, it feels important:

Sorrow. Sorrow everywhere.
If people are not dying somewhere, they are dying somewhere else.
Continents are burning.
But we should continue, because that’s what God

would want.

We must risk delight.
We must bless ourselves with peaches.
Visit the market like we would a cathedral.

Pray to the eggplant. Confess to a tomato.

Enjoy the music, despite everything.

Stubbornly accept our gladness in this world.

And when the locomotive of the Lord runs us down, be grateful that – in the end – there was magnitude.

#withapologies to both Jack Gilbert and Naomi Shihab Nye.
