Madrid is out and proud this week

Madrid Pride

Municipal buildings are draped in rainbow flags, and whole streets have transformed into runways for La Latina fashion week.

Transsexuals wear sparkly sashes announcing themselves, defiant and gorgeous.
Ames a quien ames, Madrid te quire

There are people everywhere.
And shops. And everything seems shiny, and effortlessly stylish.

The churches are dedicated to saints and virgins I have never even heard of before. Janitors vacuum and polish the floors of cathedrals during visiting hours, while children roll down the grassy hill in front of the Egyptian temple.

Police harass the street musicians, and I can not find any street art anywhere.
I did however run into little individually styled Las Meninas statues all over the city.

Las Meninas

I also discovered really great street food- with hummus and pesto and all the good things- in a side street just behind the Teatro Real.
